AFTER three weeks without a game the Middlezoy players could have been forgiven for returning a little rusty, but this performance as one of their best this season as they moved to the top of the league.

The opening goal was scored after a succession of 15 passes ending when a brilliant dummy from centre forward Paul Atyeo was collected by Craig Wright who finished a superb move.

Before the visitors had time to restore themselves it was two, this time with a similar build up.

After good work from full back Craig Robinson and a cut back from Steve Hall, right back Aaron Whaites hit the roof of the net with an outside of the foot finish.

The second half began with both sides looking for the crucial third goal.

Middlezoy came out of the blocks strongest and on 48 minutes Paul Atyeo stroked the ball home from close range for 3-0.

On 51 minutes the game was won in emphatic style, from an unlikely source. Defensive midfielder Simon Bone found himself in space 35 yards from goal and unleashed a first time, left footed half-volley into the top corner.

Middlezoy began to make some changes, which disrupted their rhythm a little and on 75 minutes the visitors got a consolation goal.

Next up is a trip to Winscombe on Saturday (February 9).
