THE Winter Series at Shiplate Farm Fishery near Bleadon, got off to a milder but blowy start. As the anglers settled in to their match the weather held dry for them, until out of the blue a mini hurricane was upon them, bending umbrellas into unrecognisable shapes and picking up poles and rollers, tossing them into the air like matchsticks.
Even Johnny Page was left shivering after his cap was blown to the far side of the Hawthorns. Short lasting but turbulent, the weather left poles broken and hopes dashed as this is now the eighth in the series of ten matches and all points scored are now critical. Most anglers fished maggot on the pole to the far bank, on both the Hawthorns and Westpool.Russ Peck topped the Silvers on (peg 14, West, 5lb 3oz) and section winners were Paul Chapman, Andy France, Johnny Page (peg 9, Haw, 30lb 6oz) and Dave Cockayne (peg 15, West, 16lb 4oz).
First place was Steve Howell (peg10, Haw, 64lb 6oz), second was Andy France (peg 6, Haw, 44lb) and third was Paul Chapman (peg 9, West, 39lb 11oz).
