Weston and District League round up
DAVE Keirle bagged four goals on debut to help Berrow Reserves claim a 6-1 win at home to Draycott in Division 1 of the Weston & District Saturday League.
Keirle was joined on the scoresheet by Dax Vincent and Shaun Lismore and manager Steve Eley was full of praise for his side.
He said: “The team played fantastic, the back four were really solid and have been a strong structure for us, and Dave is a big boost to our side.
“I don’t like to single out players because the whole team is playing well but he [Keirle] is well known in the area and is a good player for us.”
They take on Weston and District League Division 1 leaders Churchill Club 70 Reserves at the weekend and Eley said they are keen to avenge the 3-1 defeat earlier in the season.
In Division 2, Burnham United A bounced back from last week’s defeat to outplay league leaders Yatton in a comfortable 2-0 win.
James Chinnock and Dave Worthington went close in a goalless first half but they soon opened their account on the hour-mark when Chinnock jinked past his man before coolly finishing with the outside of his boot from the edge of the box.
Yatton pushed for an equaliser but any fears of a comeback were ended in the 88th minute when Mike Stevens found himself with 50 yards of space so he raced clear into it with the ball before slotting the past the on-rushing keeper to ensure Burnham completed victory.
Next week, they face Locking Park.
In Division 3, Wedmore suffered less fortune in their 3-1 defeat to Westend but are in Challenge Cup quarter-final action against Cheddar A this weekend.
Also in cup action are Wedmore Reserves who are at home to Congresbury A, while King Alfred Sports Centre are in Division 4 action when they welcome Worle Reserves.
