ASH Priors’ Lucy Shuker, Britain’s No1 wheelchair tennis player, lost her second Australian Open women’s doubles final in Melbourne today.
Second seeds Shuker and Marjolein Buis went down 6-4, 6-3 to Dutch top seeds Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot.
In the semi-finals Shuker and Buis, another Dutch player, came from behind in the first set to beat Sabine Ellerbrock of Germany and Sharon Walraven of the Netherlands 7-5, 6-3.
That victory for Shuker gave her some recompense for her narrow women’s singles semi-final loss to Ellerbrock.
The world No7 reached her first singles semi-final in Melbourne after a stirring recovery to beat Australian world No8 Daniela di Toro 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Shuker then put up a fine effort against Ellerbrock but the world No4 held on to win 7-6 (1), 7-5.
