CHARD Tennis Club is looking to boost its membership during 2013 with specific emphasis being put on finding more men to get involved.

The club held its annual meeting at adjoining Chard Cricket Club where chairman Amanda Campbell welcomed those present and reported that 2012 had been a good year for the group.

During the summer the club fielded six teams in local leagues with the Ladies 1sts winning the top spot in Division One of the Yeovil and District League as well as winning the Knockout Trophy for the area.

Other teams did well with the Ladies 2nds winning their division to earn promotion for the second year running.

Special mention was made to club coach Sally Freeman for the new energy and enthusiasm she had brought to the group and had played a leading role in the team success on the court.

Liz Beale was thanked for her efforts to maintain the grounds during the almost non-stop rain of the summer, while the Wednesday morning players were also thanked for their help to making sure the club remained tidy and organised during the season.

The club chairman added: “With continued support from everyone the club will hopefully have an even more successful season in 2013 with the main aim to grow the membership and particularly to encourage more men to join!”
