After some intense wet weather, some golf finally returned to the Windwhistle club last Monday when 38 Seniors took part a Two Man Texas Scramble.

With the course in such a wet condition, and barely playable, only four of the 19 pairs managed to break par.

Bob Barrow and Brian Hodder were leaders in the clubhouse for a considerable time, having returned a reasonable score of nett 66. But this was beaten later in the day by Chris Basterfield and newcomer Barrie Heath who won with a nett 63.

Result: 1 Chris Basterfield & Barrie Heath (nett 63), 2 Bob Barrow & Brian Hodder (nett 66), 3 Richard Forster & Mike Hone (nett 67.2), 4 Alan Davis & Maurice Arnold (nett 68).

With weather conditions little better, 30 Seniors entered a 4Ball Better Ball competition on Wednesday. Many golfers were frustrated around the over-receptive greens which made scoring more difficult. However, Stuart Pope and Ian Fielder overcame the conditions to win by a margin of four points.

Result: 1 Stuart Pope & Ian Fielder 45 pts, 2 Mike Hone & Andy Beale 41 pts, 3 John Pearce & Bob Barrow 40pts, 4 Alan Davis & Nick George 40pts.

The freshening weather on Friday enticed 39 members to enter the three man tournament which was a Bowmaker variation. Conditions were still wet underfoot, but lessons from Wednesday had been learned, and some reasonable scores were returned. With the morning sunshine, the early starters had the course advantage which was in evidence as they outscored the later golfers. Result: 1 John Bonney, Ron Powell & Brian Marsh 74pts; 2 Bob White, Keith Branchflower & Geoff Dean 73pts; 3 Mike Light, Stuart Pope & Ron Sutherland 69pts.
