Conference South
ECV Hornets 2nd 2, Bridgwater Men 1st 2
FROM the outset, the home side settled quickly as the away team struggled to hold on to the ball .
Strong tackling from Matt Upham, Nath Dyte, Tim Sullivan and Kieran Wood kept ECV at bay until they took the lead following a quick counter-attack.
The home side then doubled their lead just before half time after the ball was given away on the Bridgwater 22.
Bridgwater upped the tempo in the second half and almost scored by Willis rounded the keeper but couldn’t find the finish.
They made it 2-1 when a quickly-taken hit out by Dyte found Upham who was suddenly behind the ECV midfield and after exchanging passes with Willis found the bottom corner.
With moments left in the game, Bridgwater went on the attack and forced a short corner which was put away by Upham for his and Bridgwater’s second and grab a share of the points.
Man of the match was Matt Upham.
Central Division
Winscombe 1, Bridgwater Ladies 1st 2
FOR most of the first half, the play was in midfield with neither team managing to break down their opponents.
After 25 minutes, the deadlock ended when a cross from Lou Sturgess and a sweep from Charlie Lewis found Kira Gardner on the left post to put the ball home.
Within two minutes of the start of the second half, Winscombe caught Bridgwater napping and snatched a quick goal. Midway through the half, Gardner got her second from in front of goal when she received a pass from Jo Bromme and Gardner almost got a third as Bromme saw a shot come back off the post.
South East 1
Bridgwater Men 2nd 7, Ashmoor 2nd 2
THE visitors took a grasp of this game and stormed into a 2-0 lead before Matt Slocombe combined with Mike Eele and his saved shot rebounded to a grateful Paul Tilley who tapped in to halve the deficit.
Eele dispatched the ball for 2-2 and then Phil Morrish’s deadly pass fed Slocombe whose low curling shot beat the keeper to give Bridgwater the lead.
Eele knocked in his second after a good shot from Duncan Morrish to make it 4-2 before half-time.
The second half saw Bridgwater dominate further with Slocombe making it 5-2 and then 6-2 thanks to a mazy run and then a tap-in.
Then, Clayton Hobbs scored his first goal for the club after the ball landed at his feet from a penalty corner and he struck it home for a 7-2 win.
Man of the match went to Aaron Turner.
