ESFA County Schools Under-18 National Trophy Third Round
Somerset 4, Cardiff & Vale 0
BRIDGWATER trio Callum Kennelly, Ollie Chamberlain and Lee Villis starred in Somerset’s emphatic win over Cardiff & Vale.
This third round game beat the weather and Somerset started brightly with Joe Vyner and Sam Babatunde looking dangerous – going close to opening the scoring on a number of occasions.
Despite early Somerset pressure, the best chance fell to the visitors and it needed a great save from the keeper Liam Norris to prevent Somerset from falling behind.
Captain of the Somerset team Callum Kennelly and Ollie Chamberlain, both of Bridgwater College, dominated the midfield but, despite creating a number of good chances, the first half ended without any score.
The second half saw a change in fortunes. A threeman move saw Kennelly charge down a clearance from the Cardiff keeper and roll the ball into an empty net to take the lead.
Three minutes later the home team were awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal and Chamberlain blasted the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net to double the lead.
Somerset were not finished and, within five minutes, Callum Kennelly scored a third and 10 minutes from the end of the game Joe Vyner got what his efforts deserved with a solo effort from the edge of the penalty area after a defence-splitting pass from Lee Villis.
