Taunton Town are back on home soil tomorrow when Shortwood United visit Wordsworth Drive in the Evo-Stik League (kick-off 3pm).

After their defeat at Cinderford, the Peacocks will be looking to get back on track with three points against newcomers Shortwood who are six places but only five points above Taunton in the table, illustrating how tight the competition is.

Manager Leigh Robinson observed: “Despite not being at our best, I thought we were really unlucky to lose on Saturday but the nature of the game summed up why this league is so unpredictable this year.

“Missed chances have cost us in the last two matches but I’d be more worried if we weren’t creating.”

Town were beaten 2-1 in the away fixture at Shortwood in September so will have an added incentive for victory this weekend.

Rodney Marsh is likely to return to the squad after missing the Cinderford clash with an ankle injury.

Taunton are also in league action next Tuesday when they make the lengthy trek to Didcot Town (kick-off 7.45pm).

Taunton Under-18s went down 3-1 to Tiverton Town at Wordsworth Drive on Tuesday evening in the Somerset Floodlight Youth League.

Ollie Tucker scored for Taunton, who trailed 2-0 at the interval. The Under-18s next engagement is a league trip to Weston-super-Mare on Monday (kick-off 7.45pm).
