CRICKET: A season to celebrate for North Curry
NORTH Curry Cricket Club ended a very successful 2012 season with their AGM Awards Dinner at the Bird in Hand in the centre of the village over the festive break.
The First XI followed up last year’s championship with promotion and for the first time will compete in Division One of the Somerset League in 2013.
The newly formed Second XI entered Division Five of the West Somerset League and at the end of a very successful first campaign season were crowned champions at the last game of the season.
The Sunday XI which comprises very largely of players who are under 20 also triumphed on the last game of the season to win Division C of the Taunton Sunday League.
A first entry into The Baker Cup saw a final appearance in the Terry Mockridge Shield against Middlezoy who beat North Curry by six wickets.
A new major sponsor has also been found for 2013 with Ecar insurance (thanks to John Gannon) joining The Bird in Hand, The North Curry Coffee shop and ACI on the playing shirt.
Looking to 2013, over the Easter weekend the Club will be travelling to Brittany for a couple of pre-season warm-up matches. Pre-Season nets will be at Heathfield School on Sunday afternoons starting at the end of January.
An entry for an Under 11s team has also been made with all the youngsters coming form in and around the village of North Curry so the future of the Club looks bright.
