SHAUN Lismore’s goal was not enough as Berrow Reserves fell to a 2-1 defeat to Kewstoke Lions in Division 1 of the Weston and District Saturday League.

The team led through Lismore’s goal on 20 minutes but Kewstoke soon equalised and then clinched a winner – a result which disappointed manager Steve Eley.

He said: “They are a very good side but when they got the equaliser we acted as if we had lost the game.”

Next week, they are in Knockout Cup Round 2 action at Tickenham United.

Burnham United A fared better in their Division 2 clash with Clevedon Dons.

The team smashed six goals past the visitors thanks to four goals from Claude Bitton and one apiece for Dave Worthington and Jack Hirons to take them up to seventh in the table with three wins to their name. This weekend, they travel to Locking Park.

Elsewhere, Wedmore Reserves, without a win in Division 6, caused an upset when they beat Division 4 Kewstoke Lions Reserves 2-1 to progress through to the next round of the Davis Shield.

In Division 3, Wedmore lost 3-1 at AFC Nailsea, while Division 5 side Burnham United B suffered a 6-0 battering at South Park Rangers.
