Bridgwater Town 1, Paulton Rovers 3

TOWN tasted defeat in their second league game of 2013 on Saturday at the hands of visitors Paulton Rovers.

Play-off hopefuls Paulton started off the stronger of the two sides and took the lead after five minutes when Scott Brice headed home a Ben Lacey cross.

Bridgwater were soon back on level terms and, on 11 minutes, Steve Fitzpatrick latched on to a ball into the box to head past Kyle Phillips in the Paulton goal.

Town were unable to press on, though, as Paulton controlled the remainder of the first half and went into the break 2-1 up after James Billing swept a low shot into the net from eight yards.

Early in the second half, Bridgwater dominated and almost equalised for a second time in the match.

Tim Legg struck a fierce shot, beat Phillips in the Paulton goal, but was denied by the underside of the crossbar and the ball bounced on to the line and was cleared.

Paulton then dished out a blow of their own as they countered a Bridgwater attack and scored through Dan Cleverley’s crisp 25 yard strike after 73 minutes.

Despite town’s best efforts, it was the Rovers who claimed the spoils.
