RICKY Hayes has been announced as Bridgwater Swimming Club's head coach to lead them forward in 2013.

He learnt to swim with the club from the age of six and progressed through the ranks to become the men's captain in the 2000/01 season.

He also became the club record holder for the 50 and 100m Freestyle, breaking long standing records in the process.

He said: “It's great to be back at Bridgwater and leading my own programme again. It was fantastic to work as an assistant coach with the Somerset Cheetas but now it's time to build something special in Bridgwater.

“We will start the New Year focused on building the club and look forward to having a brand new swimming pool in the town. It's a really exciting time to be part of the club.”

The club currently swims on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings at Quantock Lodge near Over Stowey. Anyone who wants to get involved can email Ricky on bridgwaterswim@gmail.co.uk
