EVENTS following the passing last year of Wellington Football Club stalwart Selwyn Aspin have raised more than £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Mr Aspin – a former club chairman, first-team and youth-team manager – died in September at the age of 80.
He became involved in Wellington AFC after moving down from his native Halifax in the mid-1960s and remained an ardent supporter until his death after a short illness.
More than 500 people attended a special memorial match in October between Wellington Legends and Sampford Blues Legends.
The evening at the Playing Field also saw youth players take part in a penalty shootout, a ladies’ exhibition game and Mr Aspin’s wife, Amy, officially open the Selwyn Aspin Stand.
A spokesmen for Wellington AFC and the Aspin family said: "We would like to thank everyone who contributed towards raising the magnificent sum for charity."
