TAUNTON Racecourse saw 2012 out in style when their post-Christmas meeting on Sunday attracted a very large crowd.

Queues of traffic backed up beyond the motorway bridge while the course punters stood several deep to gain entry.

Those who went along were not disappointed as local trainer David Pipe scored a double on the day and A.P. McCoy a late replacement, produced a perfect ride to see Mischievous Milly a 5-1 shot for Oliver Sherwood to victory over odds-on favourite Ma Filleule under Barry Geraghty.

Taunton have a busy start to 2012 with three meetings in January, the first of which is on Monday 7th, when the first of the seven race card which carries a generous prize pot of £42k is due off at 1.10pm.

The feature race on the card is the Hippychick Novices’ Steeple Chase, a Class 3 event over two miles three furlongs at 2.40pm which has total prize money worth £10,000.

Racegoers are reminded that if booked 48 hours in advance on-line they can obtain two Grandstand tickets for the price of one for the January 7th meeting.

Taunton’s biggest race meeting ever will take place on Saturday, January 19, when the first race is off at 12.30pm.

A courtesy coach departs from Taunton Railway Station an hour before the first race, picking up at the Bus Station in town shortly afterwards and returning from the course 30 minutes after the last event.
