IT'S not often we talk about centuries outside of the cricket season, but the Taunton and District Saturday Football League notched up its 100th match postponed for the season this weekend.

All but one (Staplegrove 6, Appletree 4) were forced off after heavy rain left pitches either underwater or unplayable adding 23 matches to an already increasing tally.

And league fixture secretary Tony Good has said they may have to consider extending the season if the region continues to get battered by poor weather in the New Year.

He said: “The situation is not yet bad but we don't want any more bad weather in January or February.

“We have considered extending the season but no decision has been made yet.”

The league is set to end on May 4 at the moment but the Mercury will keep up up-to-date with any decision on this over the coming weeks.

This weekend sees rivals Bridgwater Sports travel to North Petherton in their Division One clash - a match that, if played, will only be Sports sixth of the 2012/13 campaign.

Sports have dropped only three points in this half of the season and could become serious title contenders if they win their growing list of games in hand with the current leaders.

Middlezoy continue to lead the way in Division Two but will have to see whether that lead is cut when Taunton-based Hamilton Hawks take on Staplegrove Reserves.

Wembdon will have to take on Division Three leaders Blagdon Hill while Rhode Lane Wanderers take on Division Four leaders Milverton Rangers.

In Division Five, third place Woolavington hope to move second when they take on Galmington Dragons Reserves.
