TAUNTON will host the Liverpool Victoria Women's County Championships in 2007. The three-day women's festival which, involves 12 counties in three divisions playing simultaneously, was held at Cambridge and Oakham School in 2006.
In order to accommodate the number of matches that are in the schedule, several clubs grounds in the Taunton area will be used to host games.
As well as the Championship, the Super Fours competition will be hosted in Taunton and, in the near future, Andy Wheeler the South Women's Regional Cricket Manager will be moving to an office at the County Ground.
Meanwhile, Somerset are in talks with the Government over moves to make the County Ground a national centre for women's cricket.
Chairman Giles Clarke, chief executive Richard Gould and Joy Wishlade, of Taunton Deane Borough Council, have met with Minister for Sport Richard Caborn to put forward a proposal for a National Women's Cricket Centre in Taunton.
The County Ground was officially made home of England women's cricket in the summer. But new plans would also make Taunton a centre for coaching, training and preparation, on top of hosting matches.
During the talks, Mr Caborn asked the club to look into the possibility of making the ground a wider centre for other national women's sport.
