Somerset County League Division 2W

Middlezoy Rovers 4, Burnham United Reserves 2

MIDDLEZOY stretched their unbeaten run to nine games and made it four league wins in a row with a 4-2 home victory against local rivals Burnham United Reserves.

The home side took the lead after 15 minutes when Andy Smith's overhead effort took a deflection and wrong-footed the Burnham goalkeeper.

Burnham did not take long to respond and were gifted a goal five minutes later when Zoy keeper Baker left the net unguarded for 1-1.

The visitors edged ahead on the half hour when centre forward Matthew Scott was fouled in the area by Middlezoy's Carl Tucker, the resulting penalty was converted past Steve Baker.

But Middlezoy went in at half time on level terms thanks to a goal of 35 minutes from centre back Scott Turner, who scored his second goal in two games, curling a cross-shot into the bottom corner from outside the area.

The second half belonged to Middlezoy as Dan Luce finish a flowing move with a side-footed finish and top scorer Steve Hall got Middlezoy's fourth on 70 minutes, a header from a Charlie Lintell cross.

Middlezoy regain second spot and are at home to Cheddar Reserves this Saturday.
