North Petherton II 32, Wells II 3

NORTH Petherton Seconds maintained the momentum from last weekend's excellent away victory to record a comfortable home win over Wells, writes Matt Glanville.

Playing down the slope Pethy quickly asserted themselves up front, shunting the visiting scrum backwards and gaining ground inside the visitors 22, earning a penalty which was duly slotted over by full back Mike Stevens.

Further pressure saw number eight Simon Ranson being driven over the line near the right hand corner before Wells reduced that lead with a penalty kick.

Just before half-time, Pethy extended their lead to 15-3 as Wells conceded a penalty try with Stevens adding the extras.

Russ Williams kept Pethy in control in the second half as he smashed his way over from close range, Sam Chillingworth converting.

And there was still time for Mark Cox to get on the scoresheet following another powerful driving maul by the home pack.

The conversion was missed but replacement fly half Dan Pearce set up a swift passing move and Tom Davenport finished it off in the corner, to complete the 32-3 win.
