North Petherton 33, Clevedon 0

ON a bitterly cold day Pethertons defence was the key component in this uncompromising match, writes Simon Freeman.

Clevedon dominated the first three minutes and camped themselves on the Pethy line until a turnover by Miles McNeillie and quick thinking by Ben Tracey and Jervis Manupenu saw Damian Griffin release Gavin Hancock to counter attack from 75 metres out for a superb team effort, Harry Roberts converted.

On the 18th minute a strong run by Sam Williams supported by Arron Gibbs saw Pete Dickens offload to James Carter who stretched over the line to extend the lead to 14-0 thanks to a Roberts conversion.

In the second half, Clevedon twice got themselves to within inches of the line only for Carl Brown, Harry Roberts and Miles McNeillie to hold them up.

In the 50th minute, a Lloyd Williams was quickly returned to Jervis Manupenu 40 metres out he ghosted through a gap to score in the corner.

And shortly after Hancock won Pethy a penalty and Manupenu stroked the ball to within 10 yards of the line and the forwards smartly drove the visitors back with Pete Dickens deservedly dotting the ball down in the corner, Roberts converted for 26-0.

The final score saw Hancock intercepted a pass and he strolled in under the posts, Roberts converted for a comfortable 33-0 win.
