THREE stunning late birdies in the last four holes of his fourth round kept David Dixon's chances of regaining his European Tour Card alive.
He opened his campaign in Spain over the weekend at the PGA Catalunya courses with a pair of two over par rounds which left him well adrift of the early leaders.
His third round over the Stadium course on Monday, generally accepted as tougher of the two being played, was graced by 4 birdies but a couple of bogies and a triple bogey seventh at the 18th (his ninth hole of the day) saw him tred water somewhat on the leaderboard.
With the cut falling after the fourth round he knew a good score on the Tour course was required and he produced just that as he ignored a niggling shoulder injury he has been carrying all week to card a stunning four under par round of 66 and move himself crucially inside the cut off point which fell at two over par.
Hopefully that momentum gained can be taken by Dixon into the final two rounds (Wednesday and Thursday) over the Stadium course as he attempts to break into the top 25 and regain his playing privileges for 2013 on the European Tour.
