Men's Hockey BCS League & Somerset Cup

Bridgwater 11, Richard Huish College 2nds 2

THE home team made their intentions clear with an aggressive start and early goals from Tim Bennett and Tom Lott. The ball rarely came out of the Huish defending half and with further goals from Lott (2), Liam Hedaux from a reverse stick shot and Cam Birch from a penalty corner Bridgwater were flying.

A couple of concentration lapses gave Huish two goals but on the whole the Bridgwater midfield trio of Lott, Hedaux and Gale together with the back three of Syvret, Fagan and Munden kept Huish's attack quiet.

Bridgwater kept up the pressure in the second half with goals from James Facey (3), Josh Gale and Dan Rossiter to seal a fine win.

Tomorrow (Wednesday), the team are at home against Richard Huish College 1sts.

THE women's academy played in a BCS regional five-a-side tournament this week.

All the girls' fought hard and they won their first three group games with six goals from Naomi Marable, Rhianne Doorsett got one and there was a brace from Abigail Locke and three clean sheets from goalkeeper Beth Howard.

They lost their final group game against Exeter College and lost 2-1 to the winners of the other group Truro College.

THE basketball academy finished third at the recent BCS South West qualifying tournament.

They also only narrowly lost out to a second place position on point's difference of just one basket to Truro College first team, despite beating them for the first time ever 19-11.

Bridgwater College were also so close to beating Richard Huish first team with the Huish claiming a narrow one-point win.

Coach Richard Anderson said: “We've managed to better ourselves every year at this tournament and have been chasing the likes of Truro and Richard Huish for a while now.

“This year was the first time beating Truro and placing higher than Richard Huish so I'm looking forward to next year and seeing if we can do one better.”
