Western Counties North
Weston Hornets 24, Burnham 10
THE home side started the stronger and put Burnham under pressure with their well drilled mauling lineout which drove them to the line where Burnham managed to stop it only for a couple of phases later hornets player coach went over for the converted try.
Burnham responded and fly half tim piper managed to hack through and outpace the winger to dive on the ball and score under the posts to level the scores at 7-7.
Burnham then took the lead after Piper stepped up the slot over a penalty but shortly before half-time the home side scored an unconverted try to lead 12-10 at the break.
In the second half, the game was still played as open as it possibly could with both sets of backs making strong runs into the hearts of both defences and with Burnham’s back three starting to gel.
But Hornets though played well to the conditions with a very strong set piece in both their scrum and lineout.
Hornets next score came from a penalty try and intense pressure from the home side on Burnham’s defence as they took a 19-10 lead.
Both teams now seeming to wear the same kit due to all the mud were finding it hard to find team mates and with Burnham now pushing to get the next score the ball ended up in Hornets hand and with the last few phases they scored in the corner to get their bonus point 24-10 win.
Burnham now have a two week rest with no game this Saturday but return to play Keynsham at home on December 8.
