SPORTING fixtures across our region were decimated after heavy prolonged rain left football and rugby pitches looking more like lakes.

In the Somerset County League, Berrow's Premier Division clash with Ilminster Town was abandoned and they were due to face Street Reserves in the Premier Division Cup as the Weekly News went to press.

This weekend the team are at home to St George Easton in Gordano as they look to notch up their tenth win of the 2012/13 campaign.

Division 1 side Burnham United were also out of action and will now look forward to a trip to Glastonbury Town in the league on Saturday in pursuit of only their fourth win of the season.

In Division 2W, Burnham United Reserves did not play and that was a scene replicated across all six divisions of the Weston and District League.

Predators had their Taunton and District Saturday football league match abandoned ahead of their Rowbarton Charity Cup match to Blagdon Hill. Kick-off is 1.45pm.

In rugby, Burnham's first team had their match at Weston Hornets postponed but remarkably the second string played and beat Bridgwater & Albion.
