TEENAGE boxing sensation Callum James produced an impressive performance at a competition in Barnstaple.

James, 16, was up against Jacob Durrant of Paignton and in the opening round both boxers came forward with a positive attacks, however James seemed to be the more effective as he was landing the cleaner and cleverer shots.

James led the contest going into the third round but Durrant came forward with heavy shots which sent James onto the back foot however James still had spells in the round where he landed scoring shots.

After an anxious wait from both boxers the results came in that James lost on a majority decision with the scores being 10-9 (Durrant) 10-9 (Durrant) and 6-6 (James).

However James was happy with his performance and said he is still looking for revenge against Durrant but his focus is on the national semi finals on the November 24.

He said: “If I was to win the national title it would be my proudest achievement yet.”

Heavyweight Bridgwater boxer Marcus Yeo was in action at Gillingham and was awarded a majority decision from the three-round fight with Smith from Blackmore Vale ABC, the first competitive win of his career.
