SIXTY four teams from across Somerset took part in the annual charity Short Mat Bowls Tournament in aid of Children's Hospice South West held at Blackbrook.

Playing in sixteen groups of four, Kingscliffe from North Petherton won their group to go through to the knock-out stages where the beat North Curry 2 in the first round, Comeytrowe 1 in the quarter finals and Middlezoy 1 in the semi's going on to beat newcomers to the tournament, Mark Village Swallows, 12-5 in the final. The Kingscliffe trio were Carol Hawkins, Dave Hutter and Barry Keirle.

The runners-up of the groups matches took part in the plate competition and here the Combwich triple of Don Miller, Lyn Miller and Tom Dougall won all there knock-out matches taking on another newcomer, Cerne Abbas, in the final where Comwich won by the odd shot, 6-5.

The Kingscliffe club had three other teams in the competition with Acorns 1 going out in the early stages, whilst Acorns 2 (Barb Heal, Carol and Keith Fishlock) progressed to the semi-finals of the plate but Kingscliffe 2 (Catherine Cowlin, Martin Cowlin, Grace Hucker) went out in the first round of the knock-out.
