WEIGHTLIFTING: Tiverton lifter smashes world record
TIVERTON Weightlifting Club’s Gary Ell joined strength athletes from across the globe in Glasgow, to compete at the International All Round Weightlifting Association (IAWA) Gold Cup.
The Gold Cup requires weightlifters to choose a lift in an attempt to break a world record and in the 90kg weight division Ell lifted 185kgs in the thick bar Hackilift, smashing the previous record by a substantial margin. He also came fifth in the points competition for best overall lift.
