ANDY Hill and Mark Reeves stormed into the knock-out stages of the men’s Winter Foursomes after winning the first qualifying event at Tiverton on Saturday.

Hill and Reeves posted a nett 66.5 to edge out Noel Thomas and David Wright (67).

Ian Gunn and Adrian Tyrrell (67.5) and Ian Budden and Tim Durrant (68.5) also came away with prizes.

The top eight pairs progressed to the last 32 of the knock-out stages, which start in January after the three remaining qualifiers.

Also going through were Ricky Cruse and Neil Forward (68.5), Steve Buchanan and Colin Carey (68.5), Steve Jack and Paul Mitchell (69) and Roger Millett and Dave Horn (69.5).

Rhys Cruse fired three birdies in his final round to pip Kim Garnsworthy and win the men's Penny Eclectic. Players hand in five cards during September and October, with their best score on each hole counting towards the total. Cruse, a one-handicapper, had 12 birdies to finish with a gross 59 and a nett 58.25.

Sianne Leary was the winner as juniors dominated the ladies’ October Par. Leary had a birdie two on the 14th on her way to a score of +5, with her friend Mollie Pilling second on +3.

The girls had only recently gained CONGU handicaps and have now been cut again – Leary from 36 to 33 and Pilling from 35 to 33. Both players qualified for the Kirkman Dish, which is due to take place in the spring.

Tiverton’s juniors enjoyed home and away wins against Taunton and Pickeridge in their half-term double-header.

Tom Hanson sealed a 3-1 away victory when he holed a 5-iron from 180 yards for a birdie on the par-4 17th. Tiverton followed it up with a convincing 5½–½ win at home.

The fixtures saw matchplay debuts for brothers Sam and Jimmy Heard, Mollie Pilling and Grace Jackson.

David Neilson scored 41 Stableford points to secure the Poppy Putter on Tuesday, beating Shaun White on a countback.
