A LAST minute winner epitomised Burnham's tremendous character and team spirit to win a tough match with a depleted squad.

Having travelled the long distance to Barnstaple with just the bare 11, Burnham were determined to get a result and started really brightly with plenty of pace in attackers Kerry Harvey, June England and young debutant Caitlin Berry, who caused the home defence lots of problems throughout.

Captain Carly Bush led by example with a cracking strike from a penalty corner that got Burnham off to a flying start, following Sarah Johnson's assist.

Unfortunately this was quickly cancelled out when Taw scored on the break minutes later and then took the lead despite 'keeper Tracey Dunn's best efforts to force the attacker wide during the one on one.

With Chelsea Fisher, Ali Evely and Louise Peace raiding forward from midfield, the visitors looked strong and it was only a matter of time before they were level through a well worked team goal.

Sue Solomon, Beth Ingram and Sarah Johnson played out confidently from the back and played Fisher in down the left and her finish was a sublime reverse stick flick past the onrushing 'keeper.

Burnham completely dominated the second half and should have added to their tally and made the game safe much earlier.

Berry was terrorising the home side with her skill and pace and was well supported by Fisher, Evely and Bush.

Harvey and England both went close with good chances to score before the superb Johnson set up the winner with her third assist of the day.

Her accurate pass into the D was picked up by Berry who twisted and turned the defender inside out before coolly slotting the ball through the 'keeper's legs for the last minute winner Burnham deserved.
