FA Trophy Second Preliminary Round.

Bognor Regis Town 3, Bridgwater Town 0

AFTER three good performances in the FA Trophy, Bridgwater were dealt a blow at Ryman Premier Division side Bognor Regis on Saturday, writes Eddie Robinson.

Although the home side deserved their win, the scoreline rather flattered them as Bridgwater started the match without central defender Bradley Middleton who missed out through suspension.

Bridgwater made a bright start forcing two corners in the opening ten minutes and Luke Purnell was not called into action until the 16th minute to save well from Stockford.

MacNab battled away up front on his own without reward but the game changed on 37 minutes when Bognor, who had only scored one in their last six home games, netted after Veal was adjudged to have fouled Stockford and Robinson scored from the spot.

Five minutes later, Bognor doubled their lead after a counter-attack which saw Harper in acres of space to pass across the box for Whyte to score easily.

In the second half, Bridgwater struggled to make an impact and midway through the half a long ball into the box by Robinson saw Purnell and Stockford rise up for it, a jump which the referee penalised Bridgwater for, resulting in Bognor’s second penalty and second goal for Robinson.

Town: Purnell, Thomas (Fitzpatrick 25), P Veal, McGrath (c), Simpson, McClennan (Merceica 71), Legg, Mountford, Vance, C Veal, MacNab.

Unused: Viney.
