Melanie Harvell is currently working with youngsters in Zambia as part of the Barefeet project.
AN adventurous former Bridgwater College student is looking for Mercury readers' help as she attempts to enter the Guinness Book of Records halfway across the globe.
19-year old Melanie Harvell is on a year out of education working for the Zambia-based organisation Barefeet and is asking schools from around Bridgwater to help her collect the most footprints from around the world to boost its profile.
Barefeet uses theatre and creativity to build awareness of HIV and support communities affected by it. The group organises several workshops with street children throughout the Lusaka area of Zambia, where Melanie is working.
Melanie is also hoping Bridgwater schools can work together to raise funds for the organisation.
She said: "At the end of the summer term, if possible, it would be lovely if the schools could set up a 'bare feet' day to raise money for the organisation.
"Barefeet have been chosen to represent Zambia in the Contacting the World festival this July in Liverpool and we are trying to raise money to send 15 performers to it without luck.

"As most of the performers from the organisation are from the streets themselves, they cannot borrow from their families, so it is really important we raise the money through fundraising incentives."
Melanie's mother Janet Harvell, who works at Bridgwater College, is coordinating the footprint collection.
All footprints should be pressed onto a cereal box, decorated in any way and must include the entrant's age, name, date of birth, school and residing country, with a passport photo on the back.

If you are able to help we understand that most schools/nurseries/pr
eschools would not consider photographs of the children so as long as there is a letter with the footprints confirming they are from the school. Many thanks - if you have any queries please e-mail me and I will be able to pick up the footprints. Melanie would also be very happy to come into the school when she returns at the end of august to talk about the charity to children.
