Chard Tesco staff run in memory of Ali

STAFF at Tesco in Chard put their best feet forward in memory of a checkout worker who died last year.

Alison Goodhew, known as Ali, died peacefully aged 45 on December 3, 2011, after a battle with cancer.

She was loved by her family, friends and fellow staff at the Tapstone Lane store, who took part in a number of events and raised £2,780.50 for Cancer Res-earch UK.

Forming Ali’s Barmy Army, they ran in the Race for Life in Taunton in July, and organising dress up days at work, a sports day and a pink day.

Hayley Widger, a security staff member with Tesco, said: “A lot of people knew Ali and used to go through her till.

“It brought us all together – she was a total inspiration.

“At times like that you come together as a team, and we all did to raise money.”

Ali’s daughter, Holyrood Academy student Danielle, 18, who also works at Tesco, took part in the fundraising, joining the team at the event in Taunton.

It followed a charity event involving her brother, Christo-pher, who participated in a sponsored cycle ride. Hayley said: “It’s a big total we’ve all raised and I’d like to say a massive thankyou from Ali’s Barmy Army to all customers for the support we had.”
