Very interesting book sale boost for Ferne Animal Sanctuary

TOP authors from across South Somerset visited Chard town centre in the name of a good cause.

The Ferne Animal Sanctuary shop in Fore Street held an Interesting Book Sale event on Thursday, September 6, raising over £700 on books alone. Chard author Frank Huddy, Ilminster science fiction writer Samsun Lobe and high-profile Winsham historical author Stewart Binns all went along on the day to sign copies of their latest works.

John Pomfret, a volunteer at the charity shop who helped organise the event, was delighted with the response from the public.

He said: “It was a great day thanks to the three authors who came down and one generous man who has donated a number of books to us over the past six months.

“We’re grateful to all donors of older collectable books.”

Kevin Douglas, Ferne’s head of fundraising and marketing, said: “The sanctuary’s so grateful to John Pomfret and the staff of volunteers in the shop for their efforts in organising the event, which was a resounding success.

“We hope to have another book sale event in the future.”
