Ilminster and Chard group enjoy last summer walk
2:40pm Wednesday 19th September 2012 in Somerset
THE last of the summer programme of walks arranged by Somerset Wildlife Trust Ilminster/Chard group was a visit to Langford Heathfield SWT Reserve near Wellington.
David Northcote-Wright SWT Reserves manager guided the group and gave detail of the history and management of the Reserve together with its rewards and challenges.
Although it was a fine, sunny afternoon, conditions underfoot were wet and slippery but the extensive boardwalk enabled safe passage.
Open areas had plenty of flora interest with devil's bit scabious, knapweeds, sneezewort and saw wort.
Butterflies were not much in evidence but several species of dragonflies captured the interest of the participants.
The programme of indoor meetings commences 7.30pm Friday, September 21, with a presentation entitled 'How Somerset Began'.
Les Cloutman, ecologist and naturalist will give a talk illustrated with rocks and fossils from Somerset's geological past. SWT calendars for 2013 will be on sale at Parish Hall, North Street, Ilminster (TA19 0DG) - adults £2 - refreshments available.
