The front cover of the book
A BOOK covering stories and anecdotes of the village is being launched next week.
‘Shops and Trades of North Curry’ was written by David Patten, of North Curry, and includes interviews with around 80 people who have seen the village change over the decades.
Mr Patten said: “While, ostensibly, it is about the many shops and businesses that have flourished in the village, it is really about the characters.
“While we have lived here for 35 years it still came as a surprise to learn what some got up to. “Sadly, some tales I could not include at all, while others got in by disguising the names as Mr X.”
One of the funny tales in the book includes the village baker who was too keen on his beer and vomited into the dough mix one evening. The following day, his customers said it was the “best bread we’ve ever tasted”.
The book, priced £10, will go on sale from Wednesday, September 19, at the North Curry Society and Post Office stores.
