Ex-Marine from Ilton is behind bars
8:00am Friday 7th September 2012 in Somerset
A FORMER Royal Marine who gave police the slip after leaping over an 8ft wall on his way to court is now behind bars.
Max Wilson, 24, of Chubbards Cross, Ilton, has started his 14-year prison sentence after he was captured in Liverpool.
He disappeared in February, still in handcuffs, after getting away from officers on his way from Taunton Police Station to Taunton Magistrates’ Court.
He was jailed at Exeter Crown Court after he was found guilty in his absence of aggravated burglary and trespassing with a firearm.
The court was told that Wilson and an accomplice burst into a house in Honiton, Devon, in January 2011 in an attempt to steal £6,000 they knew the victims had from selling a car.
Wilson had denied the crime but he was identified through DNA from hair and saliva left at the scene on a face mask.
