Concert in Tatworth in Jacqui's memory

A CONCERT to celebrate the life of a woman who fought a long battle against kidney cancer will be held in Tatworth this weekend.

Jacqui Hirst died peacefully in Princess Alice’s Hospice in Esher last year – and, one year on, on Saturday (September 8), her mother Jo Hirst, from Chard, is organising a concert at the Memorial Hall from 7pm in her memory.

Jo is well known in Tatworth as a former president of the Women’s Institute. She was also chairman of the Conservative party in Taunton and helped backstage with amateur dramatics in Tatworth and Chard.

Jo decided with the help of friends to run the event to raise money for Children’s Hospice South West, St Margaret’s Hospice in Taunton and Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE) at the Beacon Centre in Taunton.

Jacqui’s sister, Jennifer Martin, said: “The reason my mother wanted to do it is because it is a year from the day Jacqui died and she wanted to remember in a positive way. Jacqui loved all sorts of music and my mother loves music as well.”

Among the performers are children from Tatworth Primary School and Chard Light Operatic Society, who are giving their time voluntarily.

Jennifer added: “Jacqui was a really positive person – she fought her battle with kidney cancer for 12 years. She really made the most of her life and was still fighting at the very end. She would never give up and would always look forward to what was next.”

Tickets are available on the night – and there will be a raffle with prizes businesses in Tatworth and Chard have given.
