High yields at Yarcombe show

VILLAGERS stepped up to the plate again this year and came up with 553 exhibits at Yarcombe Flower Show in what has been a challenging growing season.

Appalling weather did not favour vegetable growers, so organisers were down on entries in this section, but the cut flowers and cookery sections benefited from increased entries.

More classes in photography were well supported and cackles could be heard from that corner of the room as the captions for photos in the ‘It makes me laugh’ class were read.

There were some professional looking exhibits in the handicraft class and the children’s section was well supported.

The Potato Diggers had 35 containers of varying sizes to sift through to unearth the produce in all their shapes and sizes, the ‘digging’ being done under the watchful eyes of those who had tended their potatoes since April.
