Police warn of PPI scams Police warn of PPI scams

POLICE warn Bridgwater residents of Payment Protection Insurance scam.

Bogus Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) companies have been contacting people under the pretence of assisting with a PPI claim they are entitled to.

These criminals then get victims to pay fees up front for services that are never delivered.

Scammers will usually ask for these ‘fees’ in the form of UKash vouchers or by transfer through Western Union.

DC Greg Brunt, from the financial investigation unit, said: “It is important to remember that a genuine company will generally never ask for any money or payment to be made before you have received your compensation from your lender either by cheque or by payment into your bank account.

“They will also never ask anyone to make payment by any form of voucher system or wire transfer including UKASH and Western Union.

“Normal practise is for recipients of a PPI claim make payments after you have received an invoice from us in writing.

“If you are a PPI customer and you receive a telephone call asking you to make a payment or buy vouchers, hang up and call the company back via the official phone number.”

To report an incident call 101.

And further to this, don't even go to the legit PPI claim companies - download the free claim form/guide from moneysavingexpert.co
m and do it all yourself.

I did just that and sucessfully reclaimed thousands! (I am not affiliated with moneysavingexpert at all!)

The easiest and safest way is to go directly to the bank who mis-sold the PPI in the first place. That's what I did, they sent me a form to fill in and the whole process took about a month, plus I got 100% of the money back no problem at all.

As for these phone scams, we have caller ID, if we get a call from an international number, as most of these are, or withheld, we just pick the phone up and put it straight back down again.

i dont need ppi never had yet always receive these texts.but be careful i get them all the time on my hotmail.i have found a useful site where you can report these scams and particularly ones that claim they are from paypal and banks telling you your online account is closed.try using action fraud on google its free you fill in a short form and they give you a fraud site copy paste it and send the fraudelent email to them when you reply and not the actual fraudsters.

o.uk and found out I´m not the only one who is being harassed by them. Next time they called me I played the stupid, driving the guy on the other end up the wall by asking stupid questions back ;)
