Party 'in discussions' over part of former Burtons site in Taunton

OWNERS of the building which housed the former Burtons store in Taunton town centre say they are in discussions with a party interested in taking on part of the site.

Taunton Land Ltd is renovating the building, next to the Castle Hotel, and splitting the large unit into two.

Company boss John Sloman said one unnamed party has shown an interest in the site but no contracts have yet been signed.

Mr Sloman told the Gazette: “There are always rumours which fly around but the ink is not dry on anything.

“We have decided to split the unit into two parts because we felt that is where the market demand will be.”

It is hoped the work to divide the unit in two – and the removal of the associated scaffolding - will be complete by mid-September.
