CURRY Mallet School pupils recently took part in the Somerset Gymnastics competition held at Orchard Gymnastics in Yeovil, and left as county champions in two of the main three categories.

Three teams of pupils took part in the Key Steps one, two and three events, with two teams competing in the middle category.

The team won county champion status in Key Steps one and two, and attained a silver award at lower Key Steps two.

The awards didn’t stop there, as students Zoë Lucas, Rebecca Wynn and Matilda Barton won gold, silver and bronze respectively in the individual Key event, while Evie O’Brien also took home an individual silver award. Students Charlotte Gratrick and Jasmine Bryan won gold and silver, respectively, in the individual Key Steps 3 event.

The success isn’t all Curry Mallet School are celebrating, as the school was recently awarded ArtsMark Gold in recognition to its commitment to and excellence in arts education.

Head teacher Alison Whitman said: “We are very pleased the Arts Council has recognised all the hard work done by the staff and children at the school and the support we have received from a number of artists, including sculptor Jan Niedojadlo and dancer Rosie Thorner.”
