William and Kate in Bishops Lydeard: After party held in Ash Priors
8:10am Monday 2nd July 2012 in Somerset
THE after party to a wedding which the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended in Bishops Lydeard was held yesterday.
Speaking to the County Gazette from their Ash Priors mansion, family members said they had a wonderful day at Saturday's ceremony near Taunton.
More than 100 guests attended the function with a field opposite the house used as a car park.
Rumours on social media on Saturday were confirmed that Prince William, Kate Middleton and Pippa Middleton were at the wedding of Alice St John Webster.
Alice is a friend of Kate and Pippa's from Marlborough College and her family live near Bishops Lydeard.
She married Gerald Avenel in a 4pm ceremony conducted by Canon Ian Ainsworth-Smith and attended by about 300 guests.
Worshippers at St Mary's Church were also told about the news in Sunday morning's service where flowers from the wedding were still decorating the interior.
Karen Rigby, of Bishops Lydeard, said: “I can honestly say they were there. I saw them as they came out of the church and later drove past us.
“I saw Kate waving and smiling in the car and Prince William was on the other side.
“When the bride and groom came out of the church there were bagpipes playing and when William and Kate appeared there were about 15 teenage girls screaming and running across the lawn. There was quite a crowd as word had got around and it was choc-a-bloc with traffic.
“There was a lot of excitement as people rushed to get a glimpse.
“Kate looked lovely.”
Joanne Sutherland, of Bishops Lydeard, added: “My mum was going to the shop in the village and she saw Kate going into the church.
“She came back and picked me up and we waited outside the church until they came out.
“The royal couple waited about outside the church for a little while and then walked across the churchyard and left in a car.
“It was really exciting and there were a lot of villagers out.
“It was nice to have them in the village and Kate looked stunning.”

I wouldn't say I was 'excited' by it but certainly newsworthy. I remember the occasion when Princess Diana turned up for a friend at North Street Congregational unannounced. Shows the Royals are human

In fact I would prefer to be an excited youngster - which I'm not - than a bitter republican. I'm not even saying I'm a Royalist but it's better the devil you know

Royalty is nearly all we have left to be proud of, and I defy you to come up with facts that they not self-supporting
Perhaps you had in mind turning the palaces over to sheltered housing or immigrant reception centres.
The immigrants, whether legal, commercial or social assistance seekers still seem to think it is worth coming here ........

There are so many unquantifiable benefits and costs to the Royalty but I'm more than happy to keep the status quo, as long as the Royals still represent the Best of British

If our predecessors had your negative attitude you'd still, and I reluctantly quote, 'wee and poo' in a cave or perhaps that what you do now! A more recent result of such apathy would have had you talking German instead of Rubbish

Aye what a wise man. However where would be without the exceptional people of the current and past? They are necessary tourist attraction nothing else in my mind. They no longer rule the country and nor do the government by the looks of things.

"For sure", as 'Arry would say, they bring colour and pageant to what some would rather make an even more grey outlook. If you want to see excitement and happiness, despite adversity, you should have been here in Spain last night where financial woes were briefly cast aside

Diana used to do alot more than just fly around the world going to weddings and parties. She used to give so much to charities.
I would like to see them down here doing something to serve the people of somerset.

In February 2012, the Duke indicated that, rather than leave the service at the end of his commission in 2013, as had been expected, he would instead remain with the RAF for a further three year commission up to at least 2016, which is when the RAF Search and Rescue Force is due to be disbanded and replaced by a private contractor.
In June 2012 Prince William gained a qualification to be captain or pilot in charge of a Sea King rather than a co-pilot.
Can't comment on other members of William's family but he seems to be tied up elsewhere than doing charity work and visiting sick children - in fact doing his duty for Queen and country, putting his life at risk - nuff said?

Yes he has risked his life for queen and country and that is admirable but he is not s regular full time member of the RAF he is a part time celebrity pilot that flys when its fits around his other engagements. He is afford all the flexibilty he needs.
