Taunton Deane MP Jeremy Browne went on the beat in Halcon to check out some of the area's improvements.
He joined Sgt Andy Murphy and said: “The police team are doing a remarkable job for the residents of East Taunton.
“The new Viridor play area is fantastic. It is a great facility for local children and young people.
“Crime levels have fallen in East Taunton and crime detection rates are up. These are both very welcome developments.
“Taunton East is also a model of community policing, with officers, PCSOs, schools, churches and others working together with local people to improve their area.
“It is easy for people to criticise the police, but in East Taunton I think Sgt Andy Murphy and his team deserve real praise.
”On a personal note, I would also like to congratulate Sgt Murphy on being one of our torch bearers for the Olympic Torch Relay next month. "I am pleased that such a great community figure is representing Taunton at this event.”
