BBC sports presenter John Inverdale looked exhausted when he cycled into Barleymows Farm Shop on the outskirts of Chard last week as part of the Great British Bike Ride.
Inverdale, well-known as a television and radio sports presenter, said he was shattered after cycling from Tavistock on Wednesday.
That was the second day of the bike ride, which had set-off from Land’s End 24 hours earlier.
“It has been really hard but enjoyable,” he said.
He then set off from Barleymows with other front-runners in the bike party and headed to Yeovil, where they made an overnight stop at Ivel Barbarians RFC.
Former England rugby captain Phil Vickery also had a well-earned rest for a ‘pit stop’ at Barleymows before moving onto Ivel – a long way behind the leading cyclists.
The riders set off from Yeovil the next morning for the third stage of the journey to Winchester – a distance of 75 miles – before cycling on to Twickenham on Saturday.
The Great British Bike Ride has been raising money for Help for Heroes, the Rainbow Charity for Children, the Rugby Players’ Association Benevolent Fund, Wooden Spoon and the RFU Injured Players’ Foundation.
