ACTOR Denis Lill, well-known to fans of the classic sitcom Only Fools and Horses, will officially open St Catherine’s Church fete in the grounds of Montacute House on Saturday, June 11, at 1pm.

Denis, who played Cassandra’s dad from 1989-92 alongside Del Boy and Trigger, has had most recent success for his portrayal of Mr Rose in the ITV drama series The Royal.

The traditions of St Catherine’s Church fete will once again be kept – from trendy trash to tasty teas with fresh cream meringues.

Country dancing from All Saints’ Primary School to Morris dancing from The Wyvern Jubilee Morris Dancers and The Village Voices Choir will also be taking to the stage.

The bouncy castle, human fruit machine, face painting and Martock Puppet Team will be lining up the afternoon’s entertainment nicely for the younger visitors.

A whole host of entertainment is on the programme, but all eyes will turn towards Denis Lill as he crowns the Carnival Prince and Princess – just in time for their Royal duties during Carnival Week.

Caroline Lewars, one of the army of helpers that will make the day run like clockwork, said: “Montacute Church fete is a highlight of the year for many people in the village and it’s always a great success with dancing, singing, children’s games, delicious home-made teas, and entertainment for everyone.”

The fete will finish at around 5pm.
