SOMERSET County Councillors received a different kind of Valentine’s message this week – a bundle of hearts dedicated to Priorswood library!

Visitors to the library’s read in protest on Friday, February 4 were given the chance to show their support by writing why they love the library on individual pieces of paper, leading to 92 ‘valentines messages’ being filled out by the same number of people.

Brenda Weston, a trustee with the North Taunton Partnership, visited Taunton’s County Hall this ysterday to deliver the bundle to Cllr Christine Lawrence, Somerset County Council’s cabinet member for libraries.

Ms Weston said: “We decided to write the messages on hearts to tie in with Valentine’s day and to show how much people in Priorswood love their library.

“They’re all people who use it and would be extremely disappointed to see it go.”

Ms Weston and her fellow campaigners are now hoping that the messages will inspire the County Council to consider helping them save the library from closure.

She added: “I hope the councillors are really going to look at those messages and see what an impact Priorswood library has had on the people who visit it.”
