A FATHER who was told he was lucky to be alive after being stabbed in the throat is making a “remarkable” recovery.

The Weekly News revealed last week how the family of James Hobbs was left shocked and devastated following the attack in Charlotte Court on January 15.

Doctors told Mr Hobbs, aged 37, he could have died after suffering a deep horizontal cut to the throat, which narrowly missed his vocal chords.

His partner Lisa Reed, 33, told the Weekly News this week that Mr Hobbs had undergone a blood transfusion at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, and had now started speaking again.

She said: “It's remarkable - the blood transfusion went really well and he was looking much better afterwards.

“He is doing extremely well. He's still being fed through a tube but compared to how he was at first we are all really pleased.

“The surgeon said he wasn't expecting him to start talking again so soon, but we just don't know what the mental scars will be like.”

Lisa added their daughter, five-year-old Molly, had spoken to her father on the phone but was not aware of the full situation.

She also said they had received great support from friends and family and praised Mr Hobbs' cousin Jonathan Clifton for helping him after the attack.

It could be several weeks before Mr Hobbs is able to return home but Lisa expects him to move to Weston General Hospital in the next few days.

Jamie Edney, 34, of Charlotte Court, Highbridge, has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and has been remanded in custody to appear at Taunton Crown Court tomorrow (Friday).
