A BUNDLE of cushions crafted for breast cancer sufferers by a group of Burnham ladies were immediately put to good use.

Members of the Burnham Inner Wheel spent hours making 27 of the special cushions ready to donate to the breast cancer unit at Weston General Hospital.

Claire Garnell, head Macmillan nurse at the hospital, was thrilled to receive the delivery, and even took some of the cushions up to the ward straight away to give to one patient who had a mastectomy the same morning.

Janet Breed, who along with fellow Inner Wheel member Rita Jolliffe presented the cushions to Claire, said: “These cushions are made to help ladies who have had recent operations and help alleviate the pain.

“They have to be made with special soft silk, which our members bring back from holidays.

“It seems now that Burnham Inner Wheel are the only club donating to Weston at the moment.

“The club is so pleased to be helping such a good cause and bringing comfort to these patients.”
