New composter for Dulverton Middle School New composter for Dulverton Middle School

Dulverton Middle School will be the first local school to have its own food and waste composter specially designed to compost all its food waste.

The machine, designed by Ridan Composting Ltd, is supported by a Wessex Water Watermark Award of £500, presented by John Clasby, Wessex Water’s fisheries and sources manager.

The carbon-neutral process turns food waste previously sent to landfill into fertile compost for the school’s gardens.

Sophie Hansen, of Dulverton Middle School, said: “Not only were we contributing to additional road traffic but also to the build up of greenhouse gasses in the landfill.

“Our new composter will compost 150 litres of food waste a week and is a brilliant way to raise everyone’s awareness of waste – and it’s a simple, efficient and sustainable solution.”
