A FUN-PACKED community day will celebrate Chard’s newly extended skate park on Saturday.
Improvements to the attraction at Henson Park were completed thanks to the hard work and fundraising of young people with StreetSpace Youth Project, who raised money for the final phase of the work for new ramps through Community Spaces and Opportunity Chard.
The family-friendly day will start with the official opening of the skate park in Chard by the High Sheriff of Somerset, Patricia Hunt JP at 11am, with a whole host of events to follow.
Groups from across Chard, including churches, playgroups, carnival clubs and youth clubs, will be running stalls with something for everyone.
There will be football coaching by Yeovil Town Football club, a bouncy castle, a barbecue and even a human fruit machine to entertain visitors.
StreetSpace project leader Richard Passmore said: “It’s great that groups from across Chard have come forward to run stalls.
“The young people delivered 2,500 invites door to door across Chard so we hope people come out on the day to show their support.”
Community groups interested in having a stall at the event – which runs from 11am to 3pm – can call StreetSpace in advance on 07830-197160 or you can e-mail admin@streetspace.org.uk
